It Doesn’t Cost You Anything to Feel Good
I have to admit to you guys, over the past few days I have been stressing myself out over the projects that I’m working on. The fact that I want to speed up the process and increase the success of my website and coaching business was weighing on me and I found myself in a less than ideal state.
As I was working on a blog post, I started thinking about why I started this blog in the first place, why I chose this path, and how I wanted to help people to be able to feel good for no reason at all. Then it hit me. I haven’t been practicing what I preach. I have been pushing so hard towards success that I completely ignored my own advice of choosing to feel good and putting myself in a positive state.
What I realized was that when I wasn’t paying attention, I slowly started slipping back into my old way of thinking. I started thinking that money was the determining factor for success, which I know I don’t really believe.
Another thing that I noticed was that because I was pushing so hard for success, I wasn’t allowing myself to go out with friends or have a good time, because I felt like I needed to spend that time working until I reached my goals. Pretty good strategy to make yourself feel lousy right? Well that is exactly how I felt.
I wasn’t letting myself enjoy life because I wanted my distorted version of “success” so bad, but what I really believe deep down is that enjoying your life is what true success is. The truth is that there will always be room for advancement, bills to pay, goals to achieve, but it is totally your choice whether you want to feel like crap and have to take care of these things, or enjoy your life and have to take care of these things. The challenges in life will never go away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy yourself when facing them.
This entire thinking process started off when one thought popped into my head. “It doesn’t cost you anything to feel good.” What a simple concept. No matter what your situation is, what challenges you are facing, it is still your choice whether you want to feel good or feel bad.
After this occurred to me I realized that what I was focusing on in my life started shifting. Instead of focusing on how far I have to go, I focused on how far I have come. I thought about all of the great things in my life, how I love the work that I’m doing and that I am making a difference, all of the people that care about me and all of the exciting things I have to look forward to in the future. When I thought back to all of the work I have left to do, it no longer seemed to weigh on me, but it felt like the best was yet to come!
I share this story with you because it is normal for everyone to get into a rut sometimes. The important thing to take away from this is that you have the ability to recognize flaws in your thinking patterns and shift them to go from feeling bad to feeling good in an instant. It is totally up to you, but right now, I choose to feel good
What do you guys stress out about and how will you be able to stop it the next time it happens and choose to feel good instead?
